Money

Is money an issue?

This really goes against the flow. Put simply, we never ask anybody for money, or equipment, or anything of the kind. Just as the circle of missionaries bowed in prayer look directly to God for changed hearts, for guidance, so they also look only to God for providing everything needed to do the job.

At first glance this may seem a bit off-the-wall. “If money is an issue why not just say so?”

The truth is that money is something of a curse to the whole missionary enterprise. Many seem to feel that solely by writing a cheque they have shown themselves to be a strong partner in the sharing of the Gospel. Even church missions committees can spend most of their time discussing how to “divide the pie”. Others hate the feeling of being pumped for money every time they open a missionary prayer letter. And there are some who may be praying earnestly for the work, but who are constantly made to feel guilty because they are not sending money.

Here's what we do about money

Here’s what we do about money. We try to get others to join with us in the circle of prayer as we look to God to reach the millions lost in darkness in far-off lands. We seek to get others to share our inward groaning for the souls that have yet to hear the Good News of Christ. We lay the needs of the lost again and again before God, asking that he would have mercy and pour out his grace upon them. And that’s it!

When there is a circle of people with hearts burdened for the important thing – the salvation of others – God will take care of all the minor things like money.

And that is our experience. God will touch someone’s heart, and they will see the need, what they can do to meet it, and they will gladly come forward to give of what they have, so that they can partner even more fully with Jesus in His work.

Explain the need.

When someone with that partnering heart comes forward asking how they may give material help, we openly explain the needs of the work. However, we strive never to look at people as sources of supply. We look at people only as potential heart-partners in our passion for the lost, and strive only to make them such by asking them to pray, laying before them the great work that lies before us.

Clearly most other missions don’t do it this way. We do, and find it very freeing and energizing, as we see God provide for our needs as we focus solely on sharing our passion for the lost. And we like it that people are free to partner with us in prayer, and other ways, without the issue of money being raised.

We never ask anybody for money, or equipment, or anything of the kind.  Just as the circle of missionaries bowed in prayer look directly to God for changed hearts, for guidance, so we also look only to God for providing everything needed to do the job.
