A high rate of suicide among the elderly in Japan is a known fact. These are lonely people without hope. The Post Office provides a service where a family member can request the postman to stop by to chat and have tea with their parent, then send them a report on their welfare. One elderly woman of 90 years commented that she cleans her house and makes tea when she knows the postman is going to visit. She says, “Having the postman come once a month makes me happy.”
Pray for workers such as Priscilla Kok with a burden to reach the elderly for Christ. Priscilla and her co-worker have been warned about complications in trying to visit in homes. Pray that God will open doors to make friends with the older generation and to bring them the message of hope found in Jesus.
