Little lives return love

One of the challenges for us living overseas is how much other foreigners come and go. Over the years we have struggled with the constant revolving door of people. But staying put, we have really come to see relationships with local people deepen. I feel that last month was a bit of a pulling back of the curtain to show how our love is being reciprocated, and how local people have come to embrace us as we embrace them.

One of the things we enjoyed this month was our friends. We had a few birthday celebrations and were blessed by our local friends who wanted to celebrate with us. On my husband’s birthday, fifteen neighbourhood kids came. I could hear them approach from all the way down the street and when I peeked out to see them, I could tell they were wearing their nicest clothes. We welcomed them in and they handed me all the snacks and knickknacks they brought as gifts, including one used hair comb. It was very touching to see how these children, with their very limited resources, invested those resources into giving us special gifts. This led to us visiting their families a few more times this month.
